Apple's annual iOS update can bring fantastic new features on your iPhone, but if you have an older iPhone and may not be able to take advantage of all those features, or would rather wait a few weeks and give Apple a chance to fix the inevitable bugs and problems, you may not be happy to find that your iPhone has downloaded the update without asking. If you don't want to update, you may need to tell your iPhone.
iPhone automatically downloads the latest version of the iOS operating system, which can be installed as soon as you plug in your iPhone and connect it to a Wi-Fi network. From a security perspective, this is a useful feature:By facilitating updates to the iPhone, Apple is able to ensure that users have the latest software, including security patches, to prevent malware and hacking attacks.
Shortly after Apple releases an iOS update, the iPhone will automatically download the installer from Apple's servers. Users will then see a pop-up warning on their iPhone telling them that software is available for installation. While Apple won't install an iOS update on your iPhone without permission, some people would rather Apple not download the installer to their iPhone in the first place - especially if they don't want to update to the next version of iOS.
People aren't always happy to have software update installers taking up valuable space on their devices. There's nothing more annoying than your iPhone constantly displaying the "Install Now" and "Remind Later" messages that remind you to install an iOS update you don't want.
You can take back control of your updates by turning off "Automatic Updates" and your iPhone will never download an iOS update again unless you ask for it.
Automatic updates are enabled by default, but you can turn them off.
This will not help if your iPhone has already downloaded the current updates, but it will prevent you from receiving these messages in the future. So the first thing you should do is go into settings and turn off automatic updates:
1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Software Update.
3. Tap Automatic Updates.
4. Deselect Download iOS Updates.
This will prevent iOS from downloading iOS updates in future.
When you deselect "Download iOS updates", the "Install iOS updates" option will also be turned off. You can also choose to download iOS updates, but not install them. The update will only be installed when the device is charged and connected to Wi-Fi. However, you will see those annoying reminders that you need to update your iPhone.
If your iPhone has downloaded an update that you don't want to install, read on to see how to remove it.
Once you remove the installer, your iPhone will stop reminding you to update your iPhone.
1.Open the Settings app.
2.Tap General.
3.Tap iPhone Storage.
4.Scroll down to see a list of apps and the amount of storage they each take up. Look for latest iOS update or use tap the magnifying glass icon in the top right and search for “iOS”.
5.Tap the update to see more details, and then select Delete Update.
6.Tap Delete Update again to confirm.
Turning off automatic updates and deleting the latest update from storage will prevent you from getting an alert window in the future. If the Install Now/Remind Later prompt reappears, check into your storage and iCloud usage and delete the update again. You'll still get alerts from the App Store when Apple releases a new version. But this only happens once every few months; not every day.
